The Unakki Coffee Collective came together with the simple yet, potentially lofty aim of creating better coffee through improved post harvest processing and giving recognition to the planters they work with in the Joldal-Palya region of Chikmagalur. Rakhee and Kathyayini started with speciality coffee in 2020 and they work with a few small holder farms from their region. A big shoutout to our friend, the brilliant Binny Varghese AKA “Barista on Bike” for the work that he has done alongside the Unakki Coffee Collective team to process these coffees, and make them taste so great
Having sampled, really loved but failed to get their coffee last year, we were determined to get our hands on some of their lots this year! Agni is an anaerobic fermented naturals that was one our favourite natural coffees we tasted this year. This light roast is super fruity with notes of Pineapple, Vanillla and Caramel and a syrupy body. It tastes great as a filter and once dialed in, it makes some incredible espresso!

The perception of coffee being a bitter beverage, made just to wake you up is changing! We want to make you experience just how delicious, and flavourful great coffee can be! We work with passionate planters who put their heart into the coffee, and then we roast the beans in small lots with tonnes care and love. For us coffee deserves to be savoured just like a fine glass of wine or a great single malt!
GREAT BEANS
India has been producing some fantastic coffees since that one Sufi (Baba Budan) went and stole that one bean from Arabia and planted it on the hence famous hill (Bababudan Giri). With new processing techniques and knowledge, Indian planters are producing some truly remarkable and complex coffees that are cherished around the world. We are committed to getting some of the best green coffees available from these amazing planters, roasting them and getting them out there for you to cherish
ROASTING
We roast small batches, to set profiles (which we have spent a lot of time perfecting) and make sure each batch is given the attention and care it deserves. Each batch is logged to ensure consistency in each cup. We cup coffees everyday (just another reason for us to have more coffee) to ensure that the beans match the level they need to be at, every time. Surprises are fun, but consistency is a lot more fun! Each coffee is profiled to make sure that it tastes great no matter how you choose to brew it.
